Code, Estates and Trusts § 3–112","heading":"","body":"(a) A surviving parent is not entitled under § 3-104 of this subtitle to a distribution of the net estate of a minor child of the parent if the parent:\n(1) Abandoned the child; or\n(2) Willfully failed to contribute to the support of the child for at least 3 consecutive years immediately preceding the death of the child or for the life of the child, whichever is less.\n(b) A parent shall be deemed to have abandoned a minor child under subsection (a)(1) of this section if the conduct of the parent demonstrates a settled purpose willfully and intentionally to relinquish all parental rights and duties with respect to the child and to renounce and forsake the child entirely.","path":["Article - Estates and Trusts"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=get\u0026section=3-112","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:07Z","sha256":"11d6386af772573a826726db55a484399a2739ffcb88203ce071f7ebc842a8ba","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-estates-and-trusts-3-111","next":"us-md/md.-code-estates-and-trusts-3-201"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
