Code, Family Law § 10–307","heading":"","body":"(a) A tribunal of this State may exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the complaint or comparable pleading is filed after a pleading is filed in another state or foreign country only if:\n(1) the complaint or comparable pleading in this State is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in the other state or foreign country for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by the other state or foreign country;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in the other state or foreign country; and\n(3) if relevant, this State is the home state of the child.\n(b) A tribunal of this State may not exercise jurisdiction to establish a support order if the complaint or comparable pleading is filed before a complaint or comparable pleading is filed in another state or foreign country if:\n(1) the complaint or comparable pleading in the other state or foreign country is filed before the expiration of the time allowed in this State for filing a responsive pleading challenging the exercise of jurisdiction by this State;\n(2) the contesting party timely challenges the exercise of jurisdiction in this State; and\n(3) if relevant, the other state or foreign country is the home state of the child.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=10-307","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"d43f96dd3332dc2ab38a5e5e8c5ee06ab7f9bfee38a3798ea1fd2b2674430b51","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-10-306","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-10-308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
