Code, Family Law § 2–202","heading":"","body":"(a) Any marriage performed in this State that is prohibited by this section is void.\n(b) (1) An individual may not marry the individual’s:\n(i) grandparent;\n(ii) parent;\n(iii) child;\n(iv) sibling; or\n(v) grandchild.\n(2) An individual who violates any provision of this subsection is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine of $1,500.\n(c) (1) An individual may not marry the individual’s:\n(i) grandparent’s spouse;\n(ii) spouse’s grandparent;\n(iii) parent’s sibling;\n(iv) stepparent;\n(v) spouse’s parent;\n(vi) spouse’s child;\n(vii) child’s spouse;\n(viii) grandchild’s spouse;\n(ix) spouse’s grandchild; or\n(x) sibling’s child.\n(2) An individual who violates any provision of this subsection is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine of $500.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=2-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"6343568d760e7d2156345870ba4dc98deb468dc55d5b2114d884321b7af37abb","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-2-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-2-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
