Code, Family Law § 2–502","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “foreign marriage” means a marriage ceremony:\n(1) performed outside this State; and\n(2) in which 1 or both of the parties were or are citizens of this State.\n(b) Each clerk shall keep a foreign marriage record book in the clerk’s office. The clerk shall record a foreign marriage when presented with either:\n(1) a certificate of marriage signed by the individual who performed the marriage ceremony; or\n(2) an official certified copy of a marriage record.\n(c) On request, the clerk shall provide, under the seal of the court, certification of a foreign marriage in the same manner as the clerk issues certification of a marriage ceremony performed in this State.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=2-502","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"1256532df7c6e7abc4e40fdc7a9a935d9634c6091dbdccb6b8accf7d9ec8547d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-2-501","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-2-503"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
