Code, Family Law § 4–704","heading":"","body":"(a) The purpose of a local team is to prevent deaths related to domestic violence by:\n(1) promoting cooperation and coordination among agencies involved in:\n(i) investigating deaths related to domestic violence; or\n(ii) providing services to victims of domestic violence, abusers, or surviving family members;\n(2) developing an understanding of the causes and incidence of deaths related to domestic violence in the county; and\n(3) developing plans for and recommending changes within the agencies the members represent.\n(b) To achieve its purpose, a local team shall:\n(1) establish and implement a protocol for the local team;\n(2) as provided in subsection (c) of this section, review fatalities and cases of serious physical injury related to domestic violence that have occurred in the county;\n(3) meet on a regular basis as determined by the local team, at least annually, to:\n(i) review the status of domestic violence fatality cases in the county;\n(ii) recommend actions to improve coordination of services and investigations among member agencies; and\n(iii) recommend actions within the member agencies to prevent deaths related to domestic violence; and\n(4) provide reports that include recommendations:\n(i) to improve coordination of services and investigations;\n(ii) to implement changes recommended by the local team within member agencies; and\n(iii) on needed changes to State and local law, policy, and practice to prevent deaths related to domestic violence.\n(c) (1) In accordance with paragraph (2) of this subsection, a local team shall determine the number and types of cases the team will review.\n(2) A local team may review criminal cases only at the conclusion of the case in trial court or after the investigation of a suicide has been closed.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=4-704","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"56b25461fb609c56a18a2b8f60c9e672dd0fda8208697d4ff1cce8944ad26b0b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-4-703","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-4-705"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
