Code, Family Law § 5–1016","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) Before or after the filing of a complaint, the alleged father may propose a settlement concerning the child’s support whether the alleged father admits or denies paternity.\n(2) The proposed contribution may be in a lump sum, installments, or otherwise.\n(b) A settlement agreement shall be prepared, executed, and submitted to the court for approval if:\n(1) the complainant agrees to accept the settlement;\n(2) the attorney for the Administration is satisfied that the amount and terms of the settlement are fair and reasonable;\n(3) the complainant has been advised properly regarding the contents of the settlement; and\n(4) the complainant is competent to accept the settlement.\n(c) If the court approves the settlement agreement, the terms of the agreement shall be incorporated in a court order.\n(d) A court order incorporating a settlement agreement is as enforceable as any order that is passed after a hearing.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=5-1016","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"41260ac3a0dcedc82c7a3f2f3cb13779ecb0189c71f4f9362fb4d2aa004e7b2c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-1015","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-1019"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
