Code, Family Law § 5–2A–02","heading":"","body":"On the filing of a petition for authorization to marry, a court shall:\n(1) appoint a lawyer with family law experience to represent the petitioner;\n(2) set an evidentiary hearing on the petition;\n(3) provide the minor with the following:\n(i) information on the rights and responsibilities of:\n1. a minor granted authorization to marry under this subtitle, including the right to divorce; and\n2. parties to a marriage;\n(ii) referral information for legal aid agencies;\n(iii) information on State and national hotlines for child abuse, domestic violence, sexual assault, and human trafficking; and\n(iv) information related to impacts and outcomes of child marriage in the United States; and\n(4) notify each living parent, guardian, or legal custodian whom the court is able to locate of their right to support or oppose the petition.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=5-2A-02","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"3981ace5976fc0539f2afb99dd4129864a88cbdbab18fe5006e4f5a522dc85f4","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-2a-01","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-2a-03"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
