Code, Family Law § 5–351","heading":"","body":"(a) Consent of a party to an adoption under this Part IV of this subtitle is not valid unless:\n(1) the consent is given in a language that the party understands;\n(2) if given in a language other than English, the consent:\n(i) is given before a judge on the record; or\n(ii) is accompanied by the affidavit of a translator stating that the translation of the document of consent is accurate;\n(3) the consent names the child;\n(4) the consent contains enough information to identify the prospective adoptive parent; and\n(5) the party has received written notice or on-the-record notice of:\n(i) the revocation provisions in this section;\n(ii) the search rights of adoptees and parents under § 5-359 of this subtitle and the search rights of adoptees, parents, and siblings under Subtitle 4B of this title; and\n(iii) the right to file a disclosure veto under § 5-359 of this subtitle.\n(b) A guardian may revoke consent to an adoption under this Part IV of this subtitle at any time before a juvenile court enters an order of adoption under this Part IV of this subtitle.\n(c) A child may revoke consent to an adoption under this Part IV of this subtitle at any time before a juvenile court enters an order of adoption under this Part IV of this subtitle.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=5-351","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"a2c73b74e9cd11fb0da5ff8ff41c9a820c3a1cda0022fab96d9e2b502baeab29","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-350","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-352"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
