Code, Family Law § 5–4B–05","heading":"","body":"(a) An individual who applies for search, contact, and reunion services shall execute a written agreement with a confidential intermediary concerning the provision of search, contact, and reunion services.\n(b) (1) (i) Except as provided in paragraph (2) of this subsection, the confidential intermediary may charge the individual a reasonable fee for search, contact, and reunion services.\n(ii) The overall amount of fees collected may not exceed the costs of providing the services.\n(2) The confidential intermediary may not charge a director of a local department who applies for search, contact, and reunion services on behalf of a minor in out–of–home placement the fee described in paragraph (1) of this subsection.\n(c) The confidential intermediary shall promptly:\n(1) file the executed agreement with the Director; and\n(2) attempt to contact the adopted individual, the biological parent, or the sibling sought by the applicant.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=5-4B-05","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"c4c743191b663b850b6e7e9108e8b27eeadea89595921823b2237b49dfb80cb6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-4b-04","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-4b-06"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
