Code, Family Law § 5–801","heading":"","body":"(a) A person who is charged with the care of a child under the age of 8 years may not allow the child to be locked or confined in a dwelling, building, enclosure, or motor vehicle while the person charged is absent and the dwelling, building, enclosure, or motor vehicle is out of the sight of the person charged unless the person charged provides a reliable person at least 13 years old to remain with the child to protect the child.\n(b) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to a fine not exceeding $500 or imprisonment not exceeding 30 days, or both.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=5-801","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"e0e15e326d1eab939f9613bfb5a8e90d7fd2bf5b35a1eac602f71579d6771568","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-7a-09","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-5-1001"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
