Code, Family Law § 9–103","heading":"","body":"(a) A child who is 16 years old or older and who is subject to a custody order or decree may file a petition to change custody.\n(b) A petitioner under this section may file the proceeding in the petitioner’s own name and need not proceed by guardian or next friend.\n(c) Notwithstanding any other provision of this article, if a petitioner under this section petitions a court to amend a custody order or decree, the court:\n(1) shall hold a hearing; and\n(2) may amend the order or decree and place the child in the custody of the parent designated by the child.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=9-103","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"c6975dde5178bcf15e17c7830000eaf439d98c545e92cecc97d7085132b29b2b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-9-102","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-9-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
