Code, Family Law § 9–303","heading":"","body":"(a) This section applies if there is a conflict between a custody order of a court of this State and a custody order of a court of another state.\n(b) Except as provided in subsection (c) of this section, a custody order of a court of this State prevails over a custody order of a court of another state.\n(c) A custody order of a court of another state prevails over a custody order of a court of this State if the court in the other state passed its custody order:\n(1) after the custody order was passed by a court of this State; and\n(2) in proceedings in which the lawful custodian under the custody order of a court of this State:\n(i) consented to the custody order passed by the court of the other state; or\n(ii) participated personally as a party.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=9-303","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"e9afa3a72c398fbdb22f0b1b86110669e3991903fccc06300ce97d517de36cc2","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-9-302","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-9-304"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
