Code, Family Law § 9.5–103","heading":"","body":"(a) A child custody proceeding that pertains to an Indian child, as defined in the Indian Child Welfare Act, 25 U.S.C. § 1901 et seq., is not subject to this title to the extent that it is governed by the Indian Child Welfare Act.\n(b) A court of this State shall treat a tribe as if it were a state of the United States for the purpose of applying this subtitle and Subtitle 2 of this title.\n(c) A child custody determination made by a tribe under factual circumstances in substantial conformity with the jurisdictional standards of this title must be recognized and enforced under Subtitle 3 of this title.","path":["Article - Family Law"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gfl\u0026section=9.5-103","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:17Z","sha256":"bcf3da1489a0ad3c95ddb16a407030d89b24ab944d4cef45e07f677660916db4","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-9.5-102","next":"us-md/md.-code-family-law-9.5-104"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
