Code, General Provisions § 2–202","heading":"","body":"(a) The Governor and the Lieutenant Governor shall take and subscribe the oath required by Article I, § 9 of the Maryland Constitution:\n(1) on the third Wednesday of January that next follows the election of the Governor, or as soon thereafter as is practicable, between the hours of noon and 2:00 p.m. in the chamber of the Senate of Maryland; and\n(2) (i) before the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court of Maryland; or\n(ii) if the Chief Justice is unable to attend, before one of the associate justices of the Supreme Court of Maryland.\n(b) The clerk of the Supreme Court of Maryland shall maintain a book that records the oaths taken and subscribed under this section.","path":["Article - General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ggp\u0026section=2-202","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:37Z","sha256":"7a6e4f2f9cb8d9ead2340663b9ca1120b2924ff08524ec0515aeab6ac12fa46c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-general-provisions-2-201","next":"us-md/md.-code-general-provisions-2-203"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
