Code, General Provisions § 4–308","heading":"","body":"(a) Subject to subsection (b) of this section, a custodian shall prohibit inspection, use, or disclosure of a circulation record of a public library or any other item, collection, or grouping of information about an individual that:\n(1) is maintained by a library;\n(2) contains an individual’s name or the identifying number, symbol, or other identifying particular assigned to the individual; and\n(3) identifies the use a patron makes of that library’s materials, services, or facilities.\n(b) A custodian shall allow inspection, use, or disclosure of a circulation record of a public library only:\n(1) in connection with the library’s ordinary business; and\n(2) for the purposes for which the record was created.","path":["Article - General Provisions"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ggp\u0026section=4-308","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:37Z","sha256":"3e94eaa49f0a0d425c254a7f2c75ead7843c0b9012d81bdc83e9cd9dbd487a98","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-general-provisions-4-307","next":"us-md/md.-code-general-provisions-4-309"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
