Code, Health - General § 13–1602","heading":"","body":"(a) The Advisory Council consists of the following 23 members:\n(1) The Attorney General or the Attorney General’s designee;\n(2) One member of the Senate of Maryland, appointed by the President of the Senate of Maryland;\n(3) One member of the House of Delegates, appointed by the Speaker of the House;\n(4) The Secretary of Aging or the Secretary’s designee;\n(5) The Secretary of Health or the Secretary’s designee;\n(6) The Secretary of Disabilities or the Secretary’s designee; and\n(7) 17 members appointed by the Governor:\n(i) One physician with experience in end–of–life care;\n(ii) One nurse with experience in end–of–life care;\n(iii) One pharmacist with experience in end–of–life care;\n(iv) One physician with experience managing long–term care;\n(v) One nurse with experience managing long–term care;\n(vi) One representative of the health insurance industry;\n(vii) One representative from a managed care organization;\n(viii) One representative of the legal community;\n(ix) One representative from the hospice care community;\n(x) Two representatives from advocacy groups for end–of–life care;\n(xi) Two representatives from religious groups;\n(xii) Two representatives of the general public with experience with end–of–life or long–term care issues;\n(xiii) One representative of the hospital industry; and\n(xiv) One representative of the nursing home industry.\n(b) (1) The term of a member appointed by the Governor is 4 years.\n(2) At the end of a term, a member continues to serve until a successor is appointed and qualifies.\n(3) A member who is appointed after a term has begun serves only for the rest of the term and until a successor is appointed and qualifies.\n(4) A member who serves two consecutive 4–year terms may not be reappointed for 4 years after the completion of those terms.\n(5) If a vacancy occurs among the members appointed by the Governor, the Governor shall promptly appoint a successor.","path":["Article - Health - General"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghg\u0026section=13-1602","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:48Z","sha256":"9aa44bffdf873ea308d19a89844fe60888ddf20b0686333bfa966136d491cf66","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-13-1601","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-13-1603"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
