Code, Health - General § 19–310.3","heading":"","body":"(a) On or before January 1, 2018, each hospital shall have a protocol for discharging a patient who was treated by the hospital for a drug overdose or was identified as having a substance use disorder.\n(b) The protocol:\n(1) May include:\n(i) Coordination with peer recovery counselors who can conduct a screening, a brief intervention, and referral to treatment and connection of the patient with community services; and\n(ii) Prescribing opioid overdose reversal drugs approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration for the patient; and\n(2) On or before June 30, 2023, shall require offering opioid overdose reversal drugs approved by the federal Food and Drug Administration, free of charge, to a patient who received treatment for a substance use disorder, opioid use disorder, or nonfatal drug overdose event.","path":["Article - Health - General"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghg\u0026section=19-310.3","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:48Z","sha256":"2008c447a015479ded75f8de22188fd7e372e3be9cf00b96dd0414e8fcdfa0ad","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-19-310.2","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-19-310.4"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
