Code, Health - General § 24–1705","heading":"","body":"(a) In addition to the assistance provided under § 24–1704 of this subtitle, the Department may, subject to the availability of money in the Fund, assist in the repayment of an education loan owed by a physician or physician assistant who:\n(1) Practices a medical specialty that has been identified by the Department as being in shortage in the geographic area of the State where the physician or physician assistant practices that specialty; and\n(2) Commits to practicing in the area for a period of time determined by the Department.\n(b) The Department shall prioritize funding for the repayment of education loans through the Program in the following order:\n(1) Physicians and physician assistants that meet the requirements under § 24–1704(b) of this subtitle;\n(2) Physicians and physician assistants practicing primary care in a geographic area where the Department has identified a shortage of primary care physicians or physician assistants; and\n(3) Physicians and physician assistants practicing a medical specialty other than primary care in a geographic area where the Department has identified a shortage of that specialty.","path":["Article - Health - General"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghg\u0026section=24-1705","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:48Z","sha256":"0be5c7ed87f2b6585ad37aec90f0e94fb85c02a8c306951af1630d0783871374","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-24-1704","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-24-1706"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
