Code, Health - General § 24–904","heading":"","body":"(a) The Department shall appoint a Standing Advisory Committee on Opioid–Associated Disease Prevention and Outreach Programs.\n(b) The Standing Advisory Committee shall consist of:\n(1) The Secretary or the Secretary’s designee;\n(2) One individual from academia who specializes in public health issues related to substance–related disorders or infectious diseases;\n(3) One representative from law enforcement, nominated by the Executive Director of the Governor’s Office of Crime Prevention and Policy;\n(4) One individual with expertise in the prevention of HIV or viral hepatitis;\n(5) One health care practitioner with experience providing services to individuals who inject drugs;\n(6) One individual with substance use experience;\n(7) One family member of an individual who injects or has injected drugs;\n(8) One representative of local law enforcement;\n(9) One local health officer;\n(10) One representative of a local or regional hospital;\n(11) One individual with experience in syringe services programs; and\n(12) Any additional members recommended by the Department.\n(c) The Secretary or the Secretary’s designee shall serve as chair of the Standing Advisory Committee.\n(d) The Standing Advisory Committee shall:\n(1) Provide technical assistance to each Program on developing:\n(i) Program operating procedures for collection and distribution of hypodermic needles and syringes;\n(ii) A plan for community outreach and education; and\n(iii) A protocol for linking Program participants to substance–related disorder treatment and recovery services; and\n(2) Make recommendations to a Program regarding any aspect of Program procedures or operation.","path":["Article - Health - General"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghg\u0026section=24-904","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:48Z","sha256":"5ddf01761e5e264c6f281a5f497af1741b5f2262f69e978e93569ff2de61f94d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-24-903","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-24-905"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
