Code, Health - General § 4–209","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) Within 72 hours after a person takes custody of a child of unknown parentage, the person shall prepare and file a report, on the form that the Secretary provides.\n(2) The report shall state:\n(i) The date and place of finding of the child;\n(ii) The sex, color or race, and approximate date of birth of the child, as determined by a physician;\n(iii) The name and address of the person with whom the child is placed for care;\n(iv) The name that the custodian gives the child; and\n(v) Any other information that the Secretary requires.\n(b) The person shall enter the place where the child was found as the place of birth.\n(c) A report under this section is the certificate of birth for the child.\n(d) If the child is identified and a certificate of birth is found or obtained, the report under this section:\n(1) Shall be sealed; and\n(2) May be reopened only:\n(i) On order of a court of competent jurisdiction;\n(ii) On written order of a designee of the Secretary; or\n(iii) As the rules and regulations of the Secretary provide.","path":["Article - Health - General"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghg\u0026section=4-209","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:48Z","sha256":"7d6f8ad3221b8b9e58f6a0860ba19621b824254fcafae7327d6a3e3218329e6d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-4-208","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-general-4-210"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
