Code, Health Occupations § 11–401","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) “Governmental unit” means any board, commission, authority, department, or other administrative agency of this State, a county, or a municipality.\n(3) “Ocular practitioner” means any practitioner who is authorized to provide services within the scope of optometry.\n(b) (1) Except as provided in this subsection, a governmental unit may not interfere with the complete freedom of the public to choose any ocular practitioner.\n(2) A governmental unit may make an agreement under which an ocular practitioner is to provide optometric services to the employees of a governmental unit.\n(c) A governmental unit shall honor and accept any report, statement, or service made or provided by a licensed optometrist within the scope of optometry to the same extent as if the report, statement, or service was made or provided by a physician.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=11-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"6a41bda29689362e911c73d3d9b546b110e730e3214a39960e30dc851fea519f","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-11-320","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-11-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
