Code, Health Occupations § 12–512","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “authorized prescriber” has the meaning stated in § 12–101 of this title.\n(b) This section does not apply to:\n(1) A controlled dangerous substance as defined in § 5–101 of the Criminal Law Article; or\n(2) The first prescription or change in a prescription for a drug that an authorized prescriber prescribes for a patient.\n(c) Except as provided in subsection (d) of this section, a pharmacist may dispense, in a single dispensing and exercising the professional judgment of the pharmacist, a quantity of a prescription drug that:\n(1) Is up to the total number of dosage units authorized by the prescriber on the original prescription and any refills of the prescription;\n(2) Except for a contraceptive dispensed on or after January 1, 2020, does not exceed a 90–day supply of the prescription drug; and\n(3) For a contraceptive dispensed on or after January 1, 2020, does not exceed a 12–month supply of the prescription drug.\n(d) A pharmacist may not dispense, in a single dose, a quantity of a prescription drug that exceeds the limit prescribed by a prescriber when the prescriber has indicated that the prescription be dispensed only as prescribed.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=12-512","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"0ff690f05e04b1393d672d961b05a84cba24ff0fd526efd5a916124c907f15c9","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-12-511","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-12-513"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
