Code, Health Occupations § 12–6A–06","heading":"","body":"(a) A protocol under this subtitle:\n(1) May authorize:\n(i) For protocols by a licensed physician and licensed pharmacist, the initiation of drug therapy under written, disease–state specific protocols;\n(ii) The modification, continuation, and discontinuation of drug therapy under written, disease–state specific protocols;\n(iii) The ordering of laboratory tests; and\n(iv) Other patient care management measures related to monitoring or improving the outcomes of drug or device therapy; and\n(2) May not authorize acts that exceed the scope of practice of the parties to the therapy management contract.\n(b) A protocol shall prohibit the substitution of a chemically dissimilar drug product by the pharmacist for the product prescribed by the authorized prescriber, unless permitted in the therapy management contract.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=12-6A-06","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"564ddf4dad079d58a98e53b11a231f622e0ab879c2d7a97183465c16aff8a635","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-12-6a-05","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-12-6a-07"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
