Code, Health Occupations § 14–319","heading":"","body":"(a) The Board may:\n(1) License an applicant by virtue of the conceded eminence and authority of the applicant in the profession if the applicant:\n(i) Is recommended to the Board by:\n1. The dean of a school of medicine in the State; or\n2. The Director of the National Institutes of Health;\n(ii) Is to receive an appointment at the institution making the recommendation under item (i) of this paragraph; and\n(iii) Meets any other requirement the Board may adopt by regulation under this section;\n(2) Define by regulation the term “conceded eminence and authority in the profession” and, for this purpose, shall consider such criteria as:\n(i) Academic appointments;\n(ii) Length of time in the profession;\n(iii) Scholarly publications; and\n(iv) Professional accomplishments;\n(3) Adopt regulations concerning the further qualifications of an applicant for licensure, including conditions of employment, application procedures, and fees under this section;\n(4) Allow an exception to the general education and examination requirements of § 14–307(d) and (e) of this subtitle, but may not permit waiver of the requirements of § 14–307(a) through (c) of this subtitle;\n(5) Qualify, restrict, or otherwise limit a license granted under this section; and\n(6) Require a 6–month probationary period during which the medical services performed by the applicant granted a license under this section are supervised by another licensed physician.\n(b) Upon judicial review, a determination by the Board under this section shall be accorded the maximum deference permitted by law.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=14-319","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"a42ac714b3a2b29bb143d751b59dc37c199dc865370b55a3fb723d492fc360c6","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-14-318","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-14-320"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
