Code, Health Occupations § 14–5F–15","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) The term of a license issued by the Board may not exceed 3 years.\n(2) A license expires on a date set by the Board, unless the license is renewed as provided in this section.\n(b) At least 1 month before the license expires, the Board shall send to the licensee a renewal notice that states:\n(1) The date on which the current license expires;\n(2) The date by which the renewal application must be received by the Board for the renewal to be issued and mailed before the license expires; and\n(3) The amount of the renewal fee.\n(c) The Board shall renew the license of a licensee who:\n(1) Submits a renewal application on the form that the Board requires;\n(2) Is of good moral character;\n(3) Pays a renewal fee set by the Board;\n(4) Is otherwise entitled to be licensed;\n(5) Meets the continuing education requirements adopted by the Board; and\n(6) Provides evidence of biennial cardiopulmonary resuscitation certification.\n(d) (1) Beginning October 1, 2016, the Board shall require a criminal history records check in accordance with § 14–308.1 of this title for:\n(i) Renewal applicants as determined by regulations adopted by the Board; and\n(ii) Each former licensee who files for reinstatement under § 14–5F–16(b) of this subtitle.\n(2) On receipt of the criminal history record information of a licensee forwarded to the Board in accordance with § 14–308.1 of this title, in determining whether disciplinary action should be taken, based on the criminal history record information, against a licensee who renewed or reinstated a license, the Board shall consider:\n(i) The age at which the crime was committed;\n(ii) The nature of the crime;\n(iii) The circumstances surrounding the crime;\n(iv) The length of time that has passed since the crime;\n(v) Subsequent work history;\n(vi) Employment and character references; and\n(vii) Other evidence that demonstrates whether the licensee poses a threat to the public health or safety.\n(3) The Board may renew or reinstate a license only if the licensee or applicant attests that the licensee or applicant has submitted to a criminal history records check under § 14–308.1 of this title.\n(e) A disciplinary panel may impose a civil penalty of up to $100 per continuing education credit in lieu of a sanction under § 14–5F–18 of this subtitle, for a first offense for failure of a licensee to obtain the continuing education credits required by the Board.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=14-5F-15","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"98347ab40bbd7c2a46b7ea204d184925fb594567d2d61e9eeb8313dda5dd3227","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-14-5f-14","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-14-5f-15.1"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
