Code, Health Occupations § 15–307","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) Unless a license is renewed for an additional term as provided in this section, the license expires on the date set by the Board.\n(2) The term of a license issued by the Board may not exceed 3 years.\n(b) At least 1 month before a license expires, the Board shall send to the licensee, by first–class mail to the last known address of the licensee, a renewal notice that states:\n(1) The date on which the current license expires;\n(2) The date by which the Board must receive the renewal application for the renewal to be issued and mailed before the license expires; and\n(3) The amount of the renewal fee.\n(c) Before a license expires, the licensee periodically may renew it for an additional 2–year term, if the licensee:\n(1) Is otherwise entitled to be issued a license;\n(2) Pays to the Board the renewal fee, set by the Board;\n(3) Submits to the Board:\n(i) A renewal application on the form that the Board requires; and\n(ii) Satisfactory evidence of compliance with the continuing education requirements for license renewal set by the Board under this section; and\n(4) Meets any additional requirements set by the Board for renewal of a license.\n(d) In addition to any other qualifications and requirements established by the Board, the Board shall establish continuing education requirements as a condition for the renewal of licenses under this section.\n(e) The Board shall renew the license of each licensee who meets the requirements of this section.\n(f) For the failure of a licensee to obtain continuing medical education credits as required by the Board, a disciplinary panel may impose a civil penalty not to exceed $100 for each medical education credit not obtained by the licensee.\n(g) (1) Beginning October 1, 2016, the Board shall require a criminal history records check in accordance with § 14–308.1 of this article for:\n(i) Renewal applicants as determined by regulations adopted by the Board; and\n(ii) Each former licensee who files for reinstatement under this title.\n(2) On receipt of the criminal history record information of a licensee forwarded to the Board in accordance with § 14–308.1 of this article, in determining whether disciplinary action should be taken, based on the criminal history record information, against a licensee who renewed or reinstated a license, the Board shall consider:\n(i) The age at which the crime was committed;\n(ii) The nature of the crime;\n(iii) The circumstances surrounding the crime;\n(iv) The length of time that has passed since the crime;\n(v) Subsequent work history;\n(vi) Employment and character references; and\n(vii) Other evidence that demonstrates whether the licensee poses a threat to the public health or safety.\n(3) The Board may renew or reinstate a license only if the licensee or applicant attests that the licensee or applicant has submitted to a criminal history records check under § 14–308.1 of this article.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=15-307","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"ed9bcb749266832add4f6bc359ec5006dc344f92c0481e44bc057159cf09705b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-15-306","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-15-308"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
