Code, Health Occupations § 17–310","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section “advanced assessment activities” means the use of appraisal instruments that require specialized psychological training for administration and interpretation.\n(b) A licensed counselor or therapist may engage in advanced assessment activities if the licensed counselor or therapist has completed training that includes:\n(1) Possession of a doctoral or master’s degree in counseling or a related field that includes a minimum of nine graduate courses of at least 3 semester hours in each of the following courses:\n(i) Psychopathology;\n(ii) Biological bases of behavior;\n(iii) Research methods;\n(iv) Advanced statistics;\n(v) Tests and measures;\n(vi) Intellectual assessment;\n(vii) Personality assessment;\n(viii) Ethics; and\n(ix) Practicum in advanced assessment;\n(2) Completion of 500 hours of supervised, direct, client–related, advanced assessment testing that is completed not less than 2 years following the completion of the master’s degree, of which a minimum of 100 hours shall include face–to–face supervision by a supervisor who is:\n(i) A licensed mental health professional;\n(ii) Proficient in the use of advanced assessment tests; and\n(iii) Approved by the Board; and\n(3) Passage of a national examination that includes items on advanced assessment that evaluate knowledge of advanced assessment procedures.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=17-310","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"8e34c5f6a906b2fcbe2a712bab1ff645a89a2b00e13c0f0d3b6c2fb96ec2016d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-17-309","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-17-401"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
