Code, Health Occupations § 8–308","heading":"","body":"(a) Subject to subsection (c) of this section, the Board shall license any applicant who meets the requirements for a license as:\n(1) A registered nurse under this title; or\n(2) A licensed practical nurse under this title.\n(b) (1) The Board shall:\n(i) Issue each new licensee a license number and registration certificate that indicates that the initial license was issued by the Board; and\n(ii) Electronically record each license in the Board’s database and on the Board’s Web site.\n(2) Each license shall include:\n(i) Any expiration date;\n(ii) The type of license; and\n(iii) Any certification.\n(c) (1) On receipt of the criminal history record information of an applicant for licensure or certification forwarded to the Board in accordance with § 8–303 of this subtitle, in determining whether to grant a license or a certificate, the Board shall consider:\n(i) The age at which the crime was committed;\n(ii) The circumstances surrounding the crime;\n(iii) The length of time that has passed since the crime;\n(iv) Subsequent work history;\n(v) Employment and character references; and\n(vi) Other evidence that demonstrates whether the applicant poses a threat to the public health or safety.\n(2) (i) Except as provided in subparagraph (ii) of this paragraph, the Board may not issue a license or a certificate if the criminal history record information required under § 8–303 of this subtitle has not been received.\n(ii) The Board may grant a 90–day extension of a temporary license pending receipt of criminal history record information.","path":["Article - Health Occupations"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gho\u0026section=8-308","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:58:58Z","sha256":"cc8f298bfadd51c9ce836aab5ec01736c89e9b49d8604b4c1cbca5dba29bcb7a","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-8-307","next":"us-md/md.-code-health-occupations-8-309"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
