Code, Housing and Community Development § 4–222","heading":"","body":"(a) A project qualifies as a solar energy project if it:\n(1) is an addition, alteration, or improvement to a residential building or a commercial building; and\n(2) is designed to reduce the energy requirements of the building by using:\n(i) wind energy;\n(ii) energy from a wood-burning appliance; or\n(iii) solar energy of:\n1. the active type based on mechanically forced energy transfer;\n2. the passive type based on convective, conductive, or radiant energy transfer; or\n3. a combination of these types.\n(b) A solar energy project may include:\n(1) a solar process heat device;\n(2) a solar electric device; and\n(3) an earth–sheltered building in which the sheltering substantially reduces the consumption of energy by the building.\n(c) A solar energy project may not include a fireplace, unless the fireplace is an integral part of a system designed to use passive solar energy.","path":["Article - Housing and Community Development"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghs\u0026section=4-222","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:07Z","sha256":"49fac0ae7662fc02f4a949bf50ab0b661854d695b1a473df1c133c7be6e6f915","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-housing-and-community-development-4-221","next":"us-md/md.-code-housing-and-community-development-4-223"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
