Code, Housing and Community Development § 8–101","heading":"","body":"(a) In this title the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Community action agency” means:\n(1) a governmental unit in a political subdivision;\n(2) a governmental unit created by a combination of political subdivisions;\n(3) an agency designated as a community action agency under the Economic Opportunity Act of 1964 as amended by the Community Services Block Grant Program, 42 U.S.C. §§ 9901 through 9926; or\n(4) a private, nonprofit organization that meets the requirements for designation as a community action agency.\n(c) “Designation” means the selection of a proposed community action agency by a governing body.\n(d) “Governing body” means:\n(1) the county council, board of commissioners, or other legislative body of a political subdivision that collectively possesses the power to adopt and carry out local laws and ordinances; or\n(2) in Baltimore City, the Board of Estimates.","path":["Article - Housing and Community Development"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghs\u0026section=8-101","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:07Z","sha256":"cf3513e5fe4ff4bb046b63642a6b08e200e1d1298fad9de97464c26eb4e3f90d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-housing-and-community-development-7-501","next":"us-md/md.-code-housing-and-community-development-8-102"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
