Code, Human Services § 11–701","heading":"","body":"(a) A person may not obtain, attempt to obtain, or aid another person in obtaining or attempting to obtain legal assistance to which the person is not entitled by:\n(1) willfully making a false statement or representation;\n(2) willfully failing to disclose a material change in financial condition;\n(3) impersonating another; or\n(4) any other fraudulent means.\n(b) (1) A person who violates this section is guilty of a misdemeanor and on conviction is subject to imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or a fine not exceeding $1,000 or both.\n(2) (i) A person convicted under this section shall make full restitution of the value of the legal assistance unlawfully received.\n(ii) The person shall be given notice and the opportunity for a hearing on the amount and terms of the payment.","path":["Article - Human Services"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghu\u0026section=11-701","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:17Z","sha256":"333feeeaf62f331f7e3c02d0e581d03ed2e925a26a4057acbe34ae893a20d25c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-11-605","next":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-11-702"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
