Code, Human Services § 5–401","heading":"","body":"(a) In this part the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Applicant” means an individual who applies for assistance under this part.\n(c) “Assistance” means:\n(1) cash payments to a recipient; and\n(2) payments necessary for supplementary services for a recipient, including:\n(i) the recipient’s funeral expenses as provided in § 5-415 of this subtitle; and\n(ii) placement of the recipient in a suitable home or institution if:\n1. the recipient lacks a legal guardian or other person legally responsible for the recipient’s support; and\n2. the recipient consents.\n(d) “Program” means the Public Assistance to Adults Program.\n(e) “Recipient” means an individual who receives, or has received, assistance under this part.","path":["Article - Human Services"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghu\u0026section=5-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:17Z","sha256":"5ab4bd9fbc614a83d2bd8f42083897f17c21d84e6599a26d6cf4864eaa9ee74b","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-5-323","next":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-5-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
