Code, Human Services § 5–605","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) In this section the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(2) “Fraud” has the meaning stated in § 8–501 of the Criminal Law Article.\n(3) “Public assistance” means any assistance described in § 8–503 of the Criminal Law Article.\n(b) Each applicant for or recipient of public assistance shall:\n(1) read or have read to the individual a statement of the conduct that constitutes fraud; and\n(2) sign the statement to acknowledge that the individual understands that the penalties for fraud under § 8–503 of the Criminal Law Article are:\n(i) imprisonment not exceeding 3 years or a fine not exceeding $1,000 or both; and\n(ii) restitution.","path":["Article - Human Services"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghu\u0026section=5-605","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:17Z","sha256":"f19e4bca26d65344882606cb46f95aecf5df619e9d39ebccb6198380af0a05ad","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-5-604","next":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-5-606"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
