Code, Human Services § 7–503","heading":"","body":"(a) There is a Steering Committee for the Alliance.\n(b) The Steering Committee shall include the following members:\n(1) the Secretary, or the Secretary’s designee;\n(2) the Superintendent of the State Police, or the Superintendent’s designee;\n(3) the Executive Director of the Police and Correctional Training Commissions, or the Executive Director’s designee;\n(4) the Deputy Secretary for Developmental Disabilities in the Maryland Department of Health, or the Deputy Secretary’s designee; and\n(5) the following individuals, appointed by the Secretary:\n(i) a representative of the Maryland Developmental Disabilities Council;\n(ii) two representatives of community–based organizations that support people with intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities;\n(iii) four members of the public with knowledge of intellectual disabilities and developmental disabilities, including at least two self–advocates and a family member of an individual with an intellectual disability or developmental disability; and\n(iv) other members deemed necessary to carry out the work of the Steering Committee.\n(c) A member appointed by the Secretary:\n(1) serves for a term of 3 years and until a successor is appointed and qualifies; and\n(2) may be reappointed.\n(d) A member of the Steering Committee:\n(1) may not receive compensation as a member of the Steering Committee; but\n(2) is entitled to reimbursement for expenses under the Standard State Travel Regulations, as provided in the State budget.\n(e) The Steering Committee shall:\n(1) develop parameters for the Alliance, including expected outcomes for and evaluation of the Alliance;\n(2) select entities to operate the Alliance through a competitive process;\n(3) provide general oversight of the Alliance;\n(4) approve the budget for the Alliance;\n(5) review the Alliance’s activities and outcomes;\n(6) develop recommendations for sustainability and expansion of the Alliance, including:\n(i) costs of sustaining and expanding the Alliance;\n(ii) potential sources of funding for the Alliance; and\n(iii) compensation and supports for self–advocate educators; and\n(7) review, or request that the Alliance review, the content and monitor the implementation of the training objectives and curriculum adopted by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission for a community inclusion training program:\n(i) at least once every 4 years; or\n(ii) more frequently if requested by the Maryland Police Training and Standards Commission.","path":["Article - Human Services"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghu\u0026section=7-503","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:17Z","sha256":"028a28a1920b0c2ce15a40ac25da8374c29ca2ea6b18799392db13dc6e79ec8d","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-7-502","next":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-7-504"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
