Code, Human Services § 9–216","heading":"","body":"(a) The Department is the central administrative department for:\n(1) juvenile intake, detention authorization, community detention, investigation, probation, protective supervision, predelinquent diversion services, and aftercare services; and\n(2) the State juvenile diagnostic, training, detention, and rehabilitation institutions.\n(b) The Department shall:\n(1) develop programs for predelinquent children whose behavior tends to lead to contact with law enforcement agencies;\n(2) promote predelinquent programs, including greater utilization of youth services bureaus under § 9–234 of this subtitle, that provide services to divert children from the juvenile justice system;\n(3) collaborate with local governments to encourage the use of predelinquent programs provided by youth services bureaus under § 9–234 of this subtitle in response to identified community needs; and\n(4) provide technical assistance to local governments and youth services bureaus under § 9–234 of this subtitle to identify alternative funding sources for predelinquent programs.","path":["Article - Human Services"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghu\u0026section=9-216","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:17Z","sha256":"8f964c05a607a99496f25009e8dc0fa01969b6eaaeef13429e8776c95dc782ae","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-9-210","next":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-9-217"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
