Code, Human Services § 9–240.1","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) The Secretary shall establish a Program to attempt to provide a volunteer mentor for each child in the State who has spent at least 30 days in a committed placement.\n(2) The Program shall be called “Maryland Rising”.\n(b) The purpose of the Program is to provide individualized attention to a child:\n(1) to decrease the child’s delinquent or violent behavior in the community; and\n(2) to increase the child’s potential for becoming a productive, successful member of the community.\n(c) (1) To carry out the purpose of the Program, the Department shall develop a statewide network of State agencies, community agencies, citizen action groups, social services providers, volunteer organizations, college student groups, and other groups who will recruit volunteer mentors for the Program.\n(2) A mentor shall have frequent contact with the child and may provide the following services to the child:\n(i) informal counseling;\n(ii) tutoring;\n(iii) assisting the child with life skills training;\n(iv) working with the child’s family or guardian;\n(v) interacting with the child’s school or employer, if necessary; and\n(vi) other individualized support services that help the child avoid negative behaviors and become a successful, productive member of the community.\n(d) The Department may adopt regulations to implement this section.","path":["Article - Human Services"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=ghu\u0026section=9-240.1","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:17Z","sha256":"2cd33e34f2184868bd6f8df4c34dbf85a354626b222e52625e4baee0e04c8607","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-9-240","next":"us-md/md.-code-human-services-9-241"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
