Code, Insurance § 10–601","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) “Authorized representative” means an independent contractor of a motor vehicle rental company.\n(c) (1) “Motor vehicle rental company” means any person that is in the business of providing motor vehicles to the public under a rental agreement for a period of 180 days or less.\n(2) “Motor vehicle rental company” does not include a peer–to–peer car sharing program as defined in § 19–520 of this article.\n(d) “Rental agreement” means any written agreement containing the terms and conditions that govern the use of a vehicle provided by a motor vehicle rental company under the provisions of Title 18 of the Transportation Article.\n(e) “Renter” means any person obtaining the use of a vehicle from a motor vehicle rental company under the terms of a rental agreement.\n(f) “Vehicle” means a motor vehicle:\n(1) of the private passenger type, including passenger vans, minivans, and sport utility vehicles; or\n(2) of the cargo type, including cargo vans, pickup trucks, and trucks that do not require the operator to possess a commercial driver’s license.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=10-601","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"8dd4e3eade6e7637336d52dddd9af761e8c27b621c3b581d90787d88716ebc31","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-10-504","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-10-602"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
