Code, Insurance § 16–219","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) If a policy of universal or variable life insurance contains a provision that allows a policyholder to reduce the face amount of the policy, the insurer shall provide a written notice to the policyholder.\n(2) The notice shall state:\n(i) that the policyholder’s policy allows for a reduction of the face amount of the policy as an option to retain coverage;\n(ii) the amount to be paid to prevent the policy from lapse; and\n(iii) the insurer’s customer service telephone number.\n(b) The notice shall be sent to a policyholder’s last known address:\n(1) at the beginning of the grace period under § 16–202 of this subtitle; and\n(2) at least 30 days before termination of coverage.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=16-219","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"1cb773846f893cff46220814e5ffeef17e134e2276b85e34d2df0415240362a7","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-16-218","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-16-301"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
