Code, Insurance § 17–301","heading":"","body":"(a) Except as provided in subsection (b) of this section, a policy of group life insurance may not be delivered in the State unless it contains in substance:\n(1) the provisions of §§ 17-302 through 17-311 of this subtitle; or\n(2) provisions that in the opinion of the Commissioner are:\n(i) more favorable to the insureds; or\n(ii) at least as favorable to the insureds and more favorable to the policyholder.\n(b) (1) Sections 17-307 through 17-311 of this subtitle do not apply to policies issued to a creditor to insure debtors of the creditor.\n(2) The standard provisions required for individual life insurance policies do not apply to policies of group life insurance.\n(3) If a policy of group life insurance is on a plan other than the term plan, the policy:\n(i) shall contain a nonforfeiture provision that in the opinion of the Commissioner is equitable to the insured and the policyholder; but\n(ii) need not contain the same nonforfeiture provisions required for individual life insurance policies.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=17-301","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"09eb53769f12ec1c3eba7bb8e04b32ceb6eee627bc0da5d941d038f6d1c11705","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-17-209","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-17-302"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
