Code, Insurance § 19–501","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) (1) “Motor vehicle” means a vehicle, including a trailer, that is operated or designed for operation on a public road by any power other than animal or muscular power.\n(2) “Motor vehicle” does not include:\n(i) a bus as defined in § 11-105 of the Transportation Article; or\n(ii) a taxicab as defined in § 11-165 of the Transportation Article.\n(c) (1) “Motor vehicle accident” means an occurrence involving a motor vehicle that results in damage to property or injury to a person.\n(2) “Motor vehicle accident” does not include an occurrence that is caused intentionally by or at the direction of the insured.\n(d) “Named insured” means the person denominated in the declarations in a motor vehicle liability insurance policy.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=19-501","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"da4e752b33de50db2e7308d2c043ab27ef096c94873b1bc1dc20aa58be14111c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-19-406","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-19-502"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
