Code, Insurance § 19–602","heading":"","body":"(a) In this section, “public entity” means:\n(1) a political subdivision of the State;\n(2) a unit of the State or a local government;\n(3) a nonprofit or nonstock corporation that:\n(i) receives 50% or more of its annual operating budget from the State or a local government; and\n(ii) is exempt from taxation under § 501(c)(3) or (4) of the Internal Revenue Code; or\n(4) a Resilience Authority as defined in § 22–101 of the Local Government Article.\n(b) Public entities may pool together to purchase casualty insurance, property insurance, or health insurance or to self–insure against casualty, property, or health risks.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=19-602","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"f6c4413a6027d4dd9521402762e606ae75dbfd46273be8ac4a582c972140232c","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-19-601","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-19-603"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
