Code, Insurance § 27–218","heading":"","body":"(a) All burial insurance benefits shall be paid in cash to the beneficiary.\n(b) A person engaged in the business of burial insurance may not pay or contract to pay wholly or partly burial insurance or its benefits to:\n(1) an official mortician, funeral director, or undertaker;\n(2) a designated mortician, funeral director, undertaker, or funeral directing or undertaking concern; or\n(3) a particular tradesperson or businessperson.\n(c) This section does not apply to life insurance or an annuity used to fund a pre-need contract as defined in § 7-101 of the Health Occupations Article or a preneed burial contract as defined in § 5-701 of the Business Regulation Article.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=27-218","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"e4eac52782651fa9aa23768cfcc183ff5fb610a0499af64a69cf57e0528a8727","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-27-217","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-27-219"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
