Code, Insurance § 27–401","heading":"","body":"(a) In this subtitle the following words have the meanings indicated.\n(b) (1) “Claim” means a demand for payment or benefit under a policy or contract by an insured, third party, or representative of the insured or third party.\n(2) “Claim” includes a demand for payment or benefit made against:\n(i) the State under Title 12 of the State Government Article, Title 2, Subtitle 5 of the State Personnel and Pensions Article, or Title 9 of the Labor and Employment Article; or\n(ii) the Maryland Transit Administration when acting as a self–insurer under § 7–703 of the Transportation Article.\n(c) “Motor vehicle accident” means an occurrence involving a motor vehicle that results in damage to property or injury to a person.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=27-401","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"28358d0ec5210fe0a4d77f76920401c2f7cd7234633e1855e0cc45884e758716","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-27-306","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-27-402"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
