Code, Insurance § 27–601.1","heading":"","body":"(a) For purposes of this subtitle, with respect to policies of personal insurance, private passenger motor vehicle liability insurance, commercial insurance, and workers’ compensation insurance, the issuance by an insurer of a new policy to replace an expiring policy issued by that insurer is a renewal.\n(b) For purposes of this subtitle, with respect to policies of personal insurance, private passenger motor vehicle liability insurance, commercial insurance, and workers’ compensation insurance, the issuance by an insurer of a new policy to replace an expiring policy issued by another admitted insurer within the same insurance holding company system, as defined in § 7–101 of this article, is a renewal if:\n(1) the policyholder’s premium does not increase; and\n(2) the policyholder does not experience a reduction in coverage.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=27-601.1","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"d680238666fbc43e99db0b9944e6d918d4717805bdd08e30c43c1d470b9b0ed0","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-27-601","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-27-601.2"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
