Code, Insurance § 4–203","heading":"","body":"(a) This section does not apply to:\n(1) acceptance of service of process;\n(2) surplus lines insurance;\n(3) a transaction for which a certificate of authority is not required under § 4-101(b) of this title;\n(4) reinsurance, as authorized under Title 5, Subtitle 9 of this article;\n(5) an adjuster while providing services with respect to a claim under a policy lawfully solicited, issued, and delivered outside of the State; or\n(6) the professional services of an attorney at law.\n(b) With respect to a subject of insurance resident, located, or to be performed in the State, a person may not in the State directly or indirectly act as an insurance producer for, or otherwise represent or help on behalf of another, an unauthorized insurer to:\n(1) solicit, negotiate, or effect insurance or an annuity contract;\n(2) inspect risks;\n(3) fix rates;\n(4) investigate or adjust losses;\n(5) collect premiums; or\n(6) transact insurance business in any other manner.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=4-203","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"d7c8c06a448d4c51d6d760c0ab972899b00f1fa3ee05ac980f4585dfafa09937","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-4-202","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-4-204"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
