Code, Insurance § 8–505","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) On the form that the Commissioner provides, each nonresident applicant for a license must appoint the Commissioner as attorney for service of process issued against the applicant in the State.\n(2) The appointment:\n(i) is irrevocable;\n(ii) binds the applicant and any successor in interest; and\n(iii) remains in effect as long as there is in force in the State a contract made by the applicant or an obligation arising from a contract made by the applicant.\n(b) (1) Each nonresident applicant for a license shall provide the Commissioner with the name and address of a resident of the State on whom notice and orders of the Commissioner and process issued against the applicant may be served.\n(2) (i) A nonresident licensee promptly shall notify the Commissioner of a change in its designated agent for service.\n(ii) A change is not effective until acknowledged by the Commissioner.","path":["Article - Insurance"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gin\u0026section=8-505","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:28Z","sha256":"4b26b27c3eee0452052369f9991e9a02aa5b97f92bbd65b225670f80bc013f26","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-8-504","next":"us-md/md.-code-insurance-8-506"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
