Code, Labor and Employment § 11–805","heading":"","body":"The purpose of adult education and literacy services is to:\n(1) assist adults to become literate and obtain the knowledge and skills necessary for employment and self–sufficiency;\n(2) assist adults who are parents or family members to obtain the education and skills necessary:\n(i) to become full partners in the educational development of their children; and\n(ii) to lead to sustainable improvements in the economic opportunities for their family;\n(3) assist adults in attaining a secondary school diploma and in the transition to postsecondary education and training, including through career pathways; and\n(4) assist immigrants and other individuals who are English language learners by:\n(i) improving their English language proficiency in reading, writing, speaking, and comprehension skills;\n(ii) improving mathematics skills; and\n(iii) acquiring an understanding of the American system of government, individual freedom, and the responsibilities of citizenship.","path":["Article - Labor and Employment"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gle\u0026section=11-805","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:38Z","sha256":"094963f4e796c3107222080d6476e7c4b23250b50ee2daaf0e3ccbfcc07ce3be","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-labor-and-employment-11-804","next":"us-md/md.-code-labor-and-employment-11-806"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
