Code, Labor and Employment § 9–221","heading":"","body":"(a) A prisoner is a covered employee while the prisoner is:\n(1) working for a board of county commissioners, a county council, or a county roads board if:\n(i) the county pays the prisoner a wage or stipulated sum; and\n(ii) the prisoner sustains permanent partial or permanent total disability or dies, as a result of an accidental personal injury; or\n(2) engaged in work while under the supervision of Maryland Correctional Enterprises in the Federal Prison Industry Enhancement Program as provided in § 10-308(d) of the Correctional Services Article.\n(b) In Allegany, Anne Arundel, Charles, Montgomery, Washington, and Wicomico counties, payment of a stipend or other money into an account that a correctional institution administers for a prisoner does not constitute payment of a wage or stipulated sum under subsection (a)(1)(i) of this section.","path":["Article - Labor and Employment"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=gle\u0026section=9-221","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:38Z","sha256":"b2ea2cc5feedba1ee36020eaae265cbb942d215aed7c5a7798b10307a5416fd9","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-labor-and-employment-9-220","next":"us-md/md.-code-labor-and-employment-9-222"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
