Code, Land Use § 20–603","heading":"","body":"(a) (1) A proposal for annexation of an area to the regional district shall be initiated by a written petition.\n(2) The written petition shall be signed by:\n(i) at least 25% of the residents of the area to be annexed who are registered as voters in county elections; and\n(ii) owners of at least 25% of the assessed valuation of the real property located in the area to be annexed.\n(b) If a written petition for annexation is submitted to the County Council, the chair of the County Council shall verify:\n(1) the signatures on the written petition; and\n(2) that the petition meets the requirements of subsection (a)(2) of this section.","path":["Article - Land Use"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glu\u0026section=20-603","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:47Z","sha256":"ea9a4bacce63f23aff507a902b6ea9ad4ab71d02574b0670cd7e116cc3879e57","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-land-use-20-602","next":"us-md/md.-code-land-use-20-604"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
