Code, Land Use § 4–206","heading":"","body":"(a) By local law, a legislative body may specify in a zoning law the allowable modifications that may be made by a variance.\n(b) The modifications in a variance:\n(1) may be only of density, bulk, dimensional, or area requirements of the zoning law;\n(2) may be only allowed where, owing to conditions peculiar to the property and not because of any action taken by the applicant, a literal enforcement of the zoning law would result in unnecessary hardship or practical difficulty as specified in the zoning law; and\n(3) may not be contrary to the public interest.","path":["Article - Land Use"],"source_url":"https://mgaleg.maryland.gov/mgawebsite/Laws/StatuteText?article=glu\u0026section=4-206","current_through":"2026-01-01","vintage":"","retrieved_at":"2026-09-14T19:59:47Z","sha256":"47109b0c724d99a1e718e59e526b3b18a2b6d8a589662026dafc2091751ef5dc","source_id":"us-md","stale":false,"prev":"us-md/md.-code-land-use-4-205","next":"us-md/md.-code-land-use-4-207"},"notice":"GroundRules: Original legal text.
